Krakow July 22-23

sunny 23 °C

Day 1

Our flight to Krakow was a decent one. With one stop in Stockholm, Sweden for the day, we spent it outside in cafes and got some shut eye in the airport we got to Poland for 193$. Total fight time was 23 hrs and 30 mins with the layover and everything. We were staying at ascot hotel for 92 a night. not too shabby if i do say so myself. To start off we decided to go see the Wawel Castle. We got a nice lesson of the history behind everything and got to go from tomb to tomb and see the dark past that took place. Also we got to go into the Wawel dragons cave, a creepy little walk way that makes you feel as if you are going to see a dragon at any second! At the end when you exit you see a metal monument of the dragon that breaths fire every few minutes, so awesome! We then decided to catch a bus to the town of Oświęcim 50 km west of Krakow.. Unfortunately not to a pleasant place. We decided to go see the concentration camp. Reading about it does not prepare you at all to what you're about to see. It is extremely heart breaking to think about what went on there in the past. We saw something we thought we would never see. It was scary yet remarkable. We decided to head back to our hotel after that to turn in for the night, it was a lot of things to process but it was well worth going to see how lucky we are now. Tomorrow we had a couple more destinations then we were off to Croatia!

Day 2

The day called for an adventure to the Rynek główny, or the town square. A lot of things are going on there st once. It's a main and busy tourist area. Bursting with street performers and attractions we walked around for a bit and sat down to enjoy a nice coffee on the patio. After a relaxing morning we headed over to the Wieliczka Salt mine. It is extremely impressive. Tons of statues made out of salt, and even a whole temple like thing for St. Kinga is there. It is awesome to see. You can lick the walls to get some salty goodness... However I don't recommend it cause who knows how many people have done it before you... Can you say germs? It was awesome though, right from the beginning when we had to go down 378 steps just to get there. I wouldn't go if you are claustrophobic though.... It would not be fun for you at all! We ended the day off with a trip to a cafe and back to our hotel to get ready for Croatia. I think we were only going to stay there for a day or two because we just planned on making it a beachy relaxing packed place but we can decide if we want to do that for sure yet... Toodles!
