When we got to Cusco, we decided to stay at the Casa Andina Classic- Cusco Plaza. It was a three star hotel with decent rates. For the four days we spent there we spent a total of $434.94, which was roughly $108 a night. We could ave found something cheaper but the reviews and loveliness of the hotel just sparked our interest. There was great staff and accommodation, in others words a pleasure!! We were perfectly located close to the Plaza De Armas. This ended up being our first place to explore. The busy buzz of the constant rush of people was interesting. We stopped at the Cathedral in the Plaza De Armas. It was quite breathtaking. The amazing architecture was a once in a lifetime sight. The gold and silver alters and oil paintings were exquisite. It was approximately $3.75 dollars which is about 10 PEN. We did not visit much the first night since we were still coping with the Jet Lag. So day 1 was spent shopping relaxing at cafes and going to visit the beautiful Plaza.
We chose to do some more adventurous things on day two including going on a long hike and a visit to Machu Picchu. We began bright and early to take the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. It was important to start early in order for us to have a decent time of arrival. We had our permits taken care of earlier because they were required for us to be able to go on this amazing hike. We did go with a guide, however he gave us a wide range of freedom to explore. The sights were amazing. It was unlike any experience I've ever had before. The pain was well worth it, because a sight like the one i experienced was not to be forgotten. Once the tedious 38km zig-zagging trail was done we finally made it. It was so amazing. We explored and instead of hiking back took the train because we were all exhausted. Quite the adventure and quite the experiences!
Day three was a little less intense. Since it was our second last day we took it a little easier. We went to see Qorikancha, or Temple of the Sun. It was an interesting sight. It is not easy to describe, you have to have been there to see it. However it was lovely. For about 10 PEN we got to spend as long as we liked in there. After that we took it easy and went to spend some time in the cafes and restaurants. It was not going to be easy to leave this lovely place!
Sadly, today was the day to pack up! Our next stop was Buenos Aires, Argentina! We checked out, went to the airport and are awaiting our flight. I'll tell you about the experience in the next post!
